Amazing story, told by the CEO of Zappos, Tony Hsieh.

The Oracle of Silicon Valley

It’s always interesting to read what Tim O’Reilly has to say:

The vast majority of businesses are created not to produce as much wealth as possible but rather to give their founders a pleasant life and a sense of personal satisfaction. Yes, most entrepreneurs want to make money, but they are perfectly happy without making billions of dollars a year. They are not predators; they are farmers.

The story of his life is fascinating.

Who judges your work?

In high school, some people learn to ship, they learn to do work that matters and most of all, they learn to ignore the critics they can never possibly please. The ability to choose who judges your work—the people who will make it better, use it and reward you—is the key building block in becoming an artist in whatever you do.

Absolutely wise.

The lamb-cheetah dilemma: To be loved or feared?

This is all about leadership. Is it better to be an aggressive player or to perform softer?

According to Chicago business professor Steven Kaplan, the softer-skilled leaders, or “Lambs,” as he labeled them, succeeded 57 percent of the time. Not bad. The aggressive, hard-nosed managers, or “Cheetahs,” however, succeeded 100 percent of time.

Now this is a part of the truth only.

“In the end, you’re measured not by how much you undertake but by what you finally accomplish.” – Donald Trump,

You have to have people in an organization who are willing to truly embrace change, because if they don’t, then what you have is an organization that’s constantly fighting to stay at the status quo. And, of course, that leads to stagnation. It’s also an unsustainable model.

Πόσοι από εμάς άραγε είμαστε διατεθειμένοι να κινηθούμε σε αυτή την κατεύθυνση;

Είστε ο CEO σε κάτι;

I said, “By the end of the week, everybody needs to write what you’re C.E.O. of, and it needs to be something really meaningful.” And that way, everyone knows who’s C.E.O. of what and they know whom to ask instead of me. And it was really effective. People liked it. And there was nowhere to hide.

Ποια είναι η δική σας “φράση”;

He preserved the union and freed the slaves.

Το άρθρο What’s Your Company’s Sentence?

Τον κόσμο όμως τον αλλάζουν αυτοί που έχουν όραμα και ξεχωρίζουν από την εσωτερική τους αξία. Εντάξει;
